This weekend it was time for the 2nd round of Danish Grand Prix, and again it was to be dominated by XRAY, with four XB8’s making it to the final and with two podium positions plus the fastest lap of the day (32.47sec set by Peter Harder). Unfortunately the victory slipped away by only 0.17sec. Some RC people says that gas off-road is not as intensive and close as other RC classes, but I’m sure that it does not get closer when you win by less than 1sec after 45 minutes of racing!!

Forty-five racers started at this race, and the Danish weather has been hot and dry for the past weeks giving us a heavy, dusty, loose-grip track. For these conditions I decided to go up in the rear diff with 10000 oil and a soft anti-roll bar. My car was in a perfect balance and so were the other XRAY drivers. With four XRAY XB8-TQs in the final and the most dominating brand, we could not ask for more.

After a few laps of the 45 minutes I made it to the front and built up a small gap before the first fuel stop at 7.5min. Claus Nielsen with his XRAY was in 2nd place, so when my engine flamed out coming out of the pit after refueling, he could claim 1st position. Down by one lap, I focused 110% on my racing and with about 10 minutes left I was close to the guys in front. After some battling with Steffen Culmsee, I moved up to 2nd place, and now it was time to make up the 15 seconds to get to Claus Nielsen. I was flying and passed Claus, but for strange reasons I then slowed down and on the last lap Steffen Culmsee was right behind me. With only 3 corners left he passed me and won by a margin of only 0.17sec. What a disappointment! XRAY was in front from the start to the finish, and then I lost it in the last corners!!

My younger brother was again unlucky and had to retire with a totally damaged car. His on/off switch failed while he was driving down the straight – the car crashed full speed into the fence.

Final results:

1. Steffen Culmsee
2. Peter Harder - XRAY XB8TQ
3. Claus Nielsen - XRAY XB8TQ

4. Tim Culmsee
5. Ole Harder - XRAY XB8TQ
6. Jan D Hansen
7. Paw Lindegaard
8. Max Pedersen
9. Thomas Mikkelsen
10. Janus Harder - XRAY XB8TQ

Beside a missed victory I think we surely proved that the XRAY XB8-TQ is a perfect race car with high reliability and super speed.
